Instantanee din Helsingor / Snapshots from Helsingor

I went to Helsingor to visit Hamlet’s castle. There, in the North of Denmark, a strong wind blew from the Nordic Sea. On the other shore of the Oresund Strait, I saw, in the distance, the Swedish town Helsingborg. In these days I may cross the strait with one of the ferries but then, towards the end of the ’90s, it was not possible without a Swedish visa which I had not.

The town looks like the other little towns I visited in Denmark. The spring flowers appeared from the snow. The church was the same style. The town was small and silent.

I went to visit the Kronborg Castle, built in 1429 for the King Eric of Pomerane, who named it Krogen. In 1580 the castle was enlarged and renamed Kronborg. But here the tourist may visit another palace, the Marienlyst Palace. This one was built in 1587 for the King Frederick II, as a hunting pavilion. During the years the palace and the garden had suffered different changes. Now it is a museum exposing paintings and silvery by local artists.

In 1580 palatul a fost extins si redenumit Kronborg.

  1. The towns in Northern countries have a characteristic architecture, which I like a lot. They are using mainly red bricks and their castles have very elaborated towers. VP, you may see some other posts, using the same type of photos, by clicking on the Northern countries in Labels. Just today I started to add English abstracts to my earlier posts (I started to write them only for the posts after November, 15, last year.)

  2. Wow!
The pictures speak for themselves. I have been reading your travelogue, and really liking it. It is like a virtual travel, you are really lucky visiting some of the most beautiful countries in the world.
What we get to see in some Travel channels you see in person.
    Have a great weekend!

  3. Hallo Traveling Hawk,

    Groetjes, Helma

  4. Forgot to tell you that when we went there was the new bridge, but passed to Sweden by boat. He was a near way, but with lots of waves!
    Many kisses again:)
