Am ajuns la sfarsitul relatarii calatoriei mele in Beijing. Am lasat la urma descrierea Orasului Interzis (Gu Gong) deoarece acesta este o adevarata emblema a orasului si a suscitat, de-a lungul timpului, curiozitati, dispute, controverse. Deocamdata…
Datorita acestui fapt a intrat in patrimoniul UNESCO, in 1987.
I spared for the last post the Forbidden City because it is a landmark of Beijing and, together with the Great Wall, represents for some people the essence of Chinese culture. China is such an immense country and has so many hidden treasures, that I would gladly spend a lot of time trying to discover them if it would be nearer…So, I have to be content with only 8 days in Beijing…For the time being…Built during the reign of Yongle (finished in 1420), the palace was the center of power for 24 Chinese emperors for over 500 years, till 1924, when Puyi, the last emperor, abdicated. It is said that 1/6 of all Chinese valuable cultural assets are in the 9999 rooms os the palace. It is consider one of the 5 most beautiful palace in the world, along with Versailles, Buckingham, Kremlin, White House ( or so the internet sources consider).
All the important halls are on the central axis (and therefore in the touristic itinerary). On the sides are the rooms of the empress, the concubines, depots, the library, etc.
The whole complex is spread on 32 ha and it is surorunded by 10 m high walls and a mot of 52 m wide, full of water. On the corners there are watch towers for the archers.
Many courtyards and halls with different destinations lead from the South gate – Meridian Gate – to the North one – Gate of Celestial Purity. In the Northern part there is a small imperial garden, a refugee for rest and meditation.
What draws tourist’s attention is the extraordinary imperial architecture: the mixture of colors, intricate wood and stone works, the volumes’ game and different objects in the courtyards, like: huge bronze cauldrons to keep water to use in case of fire, burners, Chinese lions, an imperial sundial, etc.
There are a lot of tourists here, mainly Chinese, not always patience or benevolent with photographers, if you see what I mean…For this reason I had to shoot above their heads mainly.
You may visit this place by yourself ( 7 euros entrance ticket; schedule: 8.30-17, daily) or as a guided tour (20 dollars/person). I recommend the last variant because even if you may not have the time you want, you will benefit by the explanations of a qualified guide.
My compliments for your nice China serie.
The pictures has nice light, colors and good compositions.
Greetings, Joop
Have a nice weekend !
Thank you so much, Joop! I really appreciate this, as coming from a good photographer like you.
The Forbidden City is almost a myth, thanks for these pictures.
You’re welcome, VP! I felt like in the middle of a myth being in China…
Your photos add to the interest of this beautiful place where I also would love to visit some day, but sadly I doubt that I will ever get to.
Then I am glad I give you the opportunity to see more photos than you’ve already, I’m sure, seen till now. Thank you for the appreciation, Scott1
I remember when I was in the Forbidden City I got lost! It’s such a huge complex. It’s stunning by all means. Your beautiful pictures describe perfectly the site. Kind regards.
Forbidden City is awesome. i had a great time exploring every nook and corner of the place. great shots, love all those ornate details. look forward to another series of your fabulous adventures.
You are right, Phivos. Unfortunately we have not been lost, because we was in that little group and the guide always counted us and wait for every photographer to come back in line 🙂
Thank you, Life Ramblings! Those details fascinated me and I looked for them especially!
Multumesc, VertAnge pentru aprecierea la adresa seriei. A fost o calatoriei uimitoare, care ne-a adus in fiecare zi in fata ochilor cate ceva nou.
As e ,alicee si voi incepe tocmai cu contrastele, apoi voi povesti despre obiective.
Multa cultura, culoare si minutiozitate, specifica acestui popor. Mi-a placut mult.
It was a beautiful journey with you and what good way to end at the forbidden city as planned by your posting.
Best wishes in your next journey,
looking forward,
Wong
