(din ciclul: Un vis portughez in China: Macao)

Nu departe de Largo do Senado, la parterul unei cladiri cu elemente decorative in stil Art Nouveau, s-a deschis in 2003 – ca muzeu – o casa de amanet restaurata.

Ea a apartinut unui negustor bogat din Macao, numit Kou Ho Ning si si-a inceput activitatea in 1917. Numele sau chinezesc, Tak Seng On inseamna ‘Casa de Amanet Virtute si Succes’.

Let’s Take A Look In A Former Pawnshop in Macao

In 2003 it was opened in Macao a renovated pawnshop, not far away from Largo do Senado. It belonged to a rich merchant, named Kou Ho Ning, who started this activity in 1917. The name of the pawnshop, Tak Seng On, means ‘The Virtue and Success Pawnshop’. This kind of business flourished toward the end of the Qing dynasty and the beginning of the Chinese Republic.

The pawnshop is now both a museum and a shop. You may walk through the shop, admiring the things exposed there, which you can buy.

I appreciated the little figurines made of precious wood, clay or glass, and the paintings with historical or contemporary subjects.

It pays to visit this place when you are in the centre of Macao, even for 15 minutes. There will be more if you decide to buy something because it will be difficult to decide.
